Floor Coverings for Bathrooms
Choosing a floor covering for bathroom is not an easy task. After all, it must withstand the harsh bathroom conditions, in the first place humidity and moisture and look good at the same time. Purchase of a floor covering for bathroom therefore is not something to rush into.
Ceramic tiles remain the most popular choice for bathroom floors because they are relatively inexpensive, easy to care for, hygienic and durable. They are available in many styles, designs and colours and finding ceramic tiles that meet your taste for style and beauty therefore should not be a problem. The only disadvantage of ceramic tiles is that they can be slippery and cold to bare feet if you do not have floor heating.
Another great option for bathroom covering is natural stone such as travertine and marble. Stone lasts virtually forever and gives the bathroom a unique appeal and a touch of luxury. Unfortunately, natural stone flooring is very expensive and requires professional installation. But if you can afford it, you most certainly will not regret if deciding for stone.
Wood flooring is also worth considering, especially if you would like your bathroom style to match the rest of your home’s style. But there is a catch though. Teak for instance is naturally resistant to humidity and moisture but it is installation and the joints that can cause problems. If you decide for this type of floor covering for bathroom, be sure to leave over the installation to the professionals.
The last option is vinyl covering. Its main advantages are low costs, absence of joints that could be a breeding ground for germs, ease of maintenance and a wide range of colours and designs to choose from. However, it does not last as long as the above mentioned floor coverings nor looks as aesthetically appealing.
