Simple Bathroom Decoration Ideas
If you can’t wait any longer to save enough money for a bathroom renovation or if you have just rented an apartment with a dull bathroom, there are several simple and relatively cheap ways to make it better looking and aesthetically appealing all by yourself.
Here are only a few of many simple bathroom decoration ideas which do not require a large budget nor professional installation:
Shower Curtains.
You definitely have to get rid of that old shower curtain if nothing else than for hygienic reasons. But do not buy the same colour than you have now. Consider vibrant colours such as green, yellow, orange, etc., of course, if it goes well with the existing bathroom colour scheme because these colours create a dramatic effect and give a bathroom a great deal of freshness. However, avoid curtains in the colour of your bathroom walls and choose a contrasting colour instead. A new shower curtain can cost you less than £10.
Bathroom Rugs.
Ideally, the colour of the rug should match the colour of your shower curtain because it will enable you create even more dramatic yet harmonious effect. The prices of rugs tend to vary greatly but you can easily find the right one for less than £20 if you take enough time to shop around. Be sure, however, to choose a rug with an anti-slip backing because a potential fall in the bathroom can be very dangerous.
Towels.
They can be both useful and decorative at the same time. If you would like to further enhance your new bathroom’s look, buy bathroom towels in the colour of the shower curtain and bathroom rugs. There are never enough towels anyway.
Bathroom Bin.
Yes, even a trash bin can be used to decorate your bathroom if you choose the right design and colour. As much as colour of the bathroom bin is concerned, you have several options to create the desired effect. You can either choose the colour which matches the new curtain and rug or go for completely different colour which goes well with the colour of the curtain and rug. For example, if you have decided for yellow curtain and rug, a bright green bathroom bin will create a visually pleasing colour combination and make your bathroom appear more fresh and kind of “younger“ and “playful“. Another great idea is to choose a bathroom bin which will match your new bathroom fittings and accessories such as towel hanger, paper holder, etc. Regardless which option you will choose, you should be able to find the right bathroom bin under £20 or even under £10.
Bathroom fittings and accessories.
A new toothbrush holder, paper holder, towel hanger, etc. will instantly give even the dullest bathroom a completely different look. Look for fittings and accessories which go well with your bathroom’s style and colour scheme, and consider buying them in a set because they all come in perfectly matching styles and colours, and are typically cheaper than if you buy them one by one. The prices of bathroom sets tend to vary greatly but it is possible to find them at a great price.
New mirror.
Even a simple framed mirror gives a bathroom a touch of elegance and luxury. In addition, it can help you create an illusion of a larger space. Please call an electrician if the old mirror features lights or if you would like to install an illuminated mirror instead of a framed one to check the wiring or carry out electrical connection. Expect to pay about £30 for a simple framed bathroom mirror and slightly more for the illuminated one.
Pictures.
Hanging a few pictures on your bathroom walls can create a highly pleasing effect. However, if it is not your apartment, be sure to ask the owner for permission before you start drilling any holes into the walls.
Paint job.

If the walls of your bathroom are not covered with tiles all the way up to the ceiling, a paint job is a must if you want to give your bathroom a new look. Again, the colour of the shower curtain and bathroom rug will look excellent but only under condition that at least one half of the walls is covered with tiles in a different colour. If the tiles already match the colour of the curtain, it is probably best to paint the walls with white paint to give them a fresh and cleaner look. The paint and the necessary tools should not cost you over £30 to £40.
Houseplants.

If you have enough space in your bathroom and at least a small window, you can further enhance its new look with a lush tropical plant. But even if you have a small bathroom, you most certainly have enough space for a small bathroom plant.
Bathroom necessities and various decorative items.

Shampoos, face creams, body lotions, etc. often make bathrooms look kind of messy and are usually kept out of sight. However, a bottle of perfume, a hand made soap and similar items can easily be left on display to avoid “showroom“ look and give your bathroom a touch of your personality. A great idea are also various decorative items such as vases, statues, shells you brought home from vacation, etc. Be sure, however, not to overdo with decorative items because they may create a “kitschy“ look.
